The body of Frank Mumert was found in a field, 12 miles from his home last Saturday afternoon by a son of Rev. Burchett. The coroner of Graham county was called and an inquest held, which decided that Mr. Mumert met death from natural causes and exposure. They body was brought to WaKeeney and prepared for burial.
Mr. Mumert lived alone on a farm 17 miles northeast of WaKeeney and was last seen by his brother on February 9th. A few days later his brother noticed that he was not at home, but believed he had gone to Jewell county for a visit for a visit with relatives, as he made frequent visits there. When word was received from his relatives in Jewell county that he was not there a number of neighbors made a search for him in the neighborhood, but without success. It was then supposed that he was visiting with his children in Iowa.
The body was found in a field off the road and it is supposed that he had started for WaKeeney for medical aid, but his strength had given out and he wandered around until exhausted not knowing where he was. On the day that he was last seen by his brother, he complained of a cold and sore throat and he may have been suffering from an attack of the flu.
Thomas Franklin Mumert was born in Prohetstown, White Side County, Illinois, on November 18, 1859, and was 66 years of age at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Eugene Hemstead, of Lovewell, Kansas, in 1893. To this union five children were born, four of whom are living, Earl, Ralph and Anna Mumert, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Florence Marr, of Lovewell, Kansas. Mr. Mumert came to Kansas with his parents in 1879 locating in Jewell county, Later moving to Graham county, where he had since resided and where he engaged in farming until the time of his death. Besides his four children, he is survived by three brothers, Edward, of Hill City, Grant of Edmonton, Canada, and William of WaKeeney, and three sisters, Mrs. E. D. Neff, Mrs. W. A. Allen and Mrs. H. F. Kline of, of WaKeeney.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Bethel Cook Monday afternoon at the Methodist church and interment was made in WaKeeney Cemetery.
