A man named Casey, who was a friend of Ed Hurley shot McDermott. He shot Casey's friend so Casey shot him."Eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth" is the frontier code. "Another shooting affair has occurred at Dodge, which
has proved the death of one McDermott. We cannot give full particulars but will give you an inkling of the tragedy, which is purely an item of far frontier life. Sometime since. a man by the name of Hurley was shot by McDermott. The "code" is very peculiar in our frontier towns, as you are aware. Consequently a friend of Hurley's by the name of Casey, plugged McDermott.
