Fred was the son of Henry and Eve Catherine Leffler Stainbrook and was born in Berks County, PA and was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Bain who died in 1856.

Their children were: John, Andrew, Elizabeth, Frederick, Mathias, Benjamin, Sarah, Soloman, James, William Thomas "Bill", Hiram, and Mary Jane

Excerpt from son's bio: The father of the family, Fred Stainbrook, drove in on Market Square in Fort Scott with seven yoke of oxen and two horse-drawn wagons, on September 12, 1855. They stayed for some time in a log house on Mill creek, where the mother died. Soon after the family went on farther west and settled on the farm where William Stainbrook lives today.
