*Obituary
Murel V Burkett, only son of Mr and Mrs A E Burkett was born on a farm near Sunnydale, Kansas. When eleven years of age he came with his parents to Newton and received he education in the public schools here. May 1, 1910 he was married to Miss Pearl Palmer of Newton. For the past eight years he had resided at Herington and was employed by the Rock Island Rail Road. While conductor in charge of his train he was injured in an accident in Kansas City on March 10. After three months of intense suffering he passed away during the time a second operation was being performed in hopes of saving his life, at Bethany hospital Saturday morning. May 22, 1920
