LeRoy Dawson, son of Jim A Dawson and Ellen Boswell Dawson was born in Sumner, Mo, August 30, 1897 and passed away June 15, 1942 at the U S Veterans hospital in Wichita, at the age of 44 years, 9 months and 15 days.

He moved to Newton in 1931 where he had lived until his death. He was married to Evelyn Marie Sherman at Abilene, Kansas in 1919 and to this union were born three children, Royalyn who passed away in 1920, LeRoy Jr, age 20 who is Staff Sergeant in Co F, 137 infantry, and Donald Dean, age 12 of the home. Mr Dawson was a member of the Lutheran church in Peabody, Kansas and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had served in Co H 139 Infantry of World War I. He took pride in the fact that his father and his son as well as himself were all sergeants in the armed forces of the United States.

In addition to his wife and two sons he is survived by the following; three brothers, Jim of Abilene, Claude of Lee Summitt, M., and Allen of Topeka, one sister Lily of Sumner, Mo LeRoy was very popular in Newton and the entire community unites in extending its sympathy to those who were nearest and dearest to him.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian church at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Logan Martin officiating. Mr. and Mrs. John England sang, "Good Night and Good Morning" and Mr. England sang "Sleep Soldier Boy" as a solo. Mrs. Kenneth Carnahan played "Going home" on the organ. Honorary pallbearers were; Joseph Fagan, Paul Pletcher, Dr J A Wheeler, Frank Zurcher, Francis Downing, Ray Ballard, Glenn Wacker, E E Smith, Pinky Parker and John Snyder.

Active pallbearers were; Roy Britton, Kenneth Carnahan, Lawrence Hauck, Harry Sturdevant, George Swanson and Lloyd Trickle. The Wichita Burial Squad Post 112 V. F. W. held an impressive service at the grave in Greenwood cemetery where interment was made.
