Lavinia C BURCHETT CLARK

Means (aka Rocky Ford) Cemetery
Greenwood County,
Kansas

April 21, 1828 - March 2, 1900

Lavina was the daughter of Burwell Burchett of Lone Branch, Lee County, Virginia. In 1845 she married Washington Clark, son of James Handley Clark and Cindarella Davis Clark.

The couple first tried living in Hancock County, Tennessee, but moved back to Virginia between 1850-1853. The Civil War broke out and Washington enlisted in 1863 in Company F2 of the 64th Virginia Mounted Infantry. He was captured in Cumberland Gap later that year. He died about a year later, as a prisoner at Camp Douglas in Illinois.

The children I have identified were Samuel, Drucilla, William Franklin, Henry David, and Mary A. (Burchett). I lose track of Samuel after 1860, so he may have been lost in the war as well, or just moved on afterward. The name is too common to be sure. We see nothing of Drucilla after she was a toddler in Tennessee, so she may have died there, or when they got back to Virginia. She is gone by 1860. I have found no close connection between the Burchetts that Mary married into and Lavinia's family.
