Raymond Parks Jr., 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson City.
He was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Dodge City, to Raymond Sr. and Sarah J. Boese Parks. He graduated from Montezuma High School and attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson.
Mr. Parks earned the Bronze Star serving with the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea from 1950 to 1952. He has farmed in southeast Stanton County since moving from Montezuma to Johnson City in 1953.

On April 24, 1953, he married Wanetta M. Dirks in Hutchinson.
Mr. Parks loved four-wheeling on the mountain trails near the home they owned in Cuchara, Colo. A private pilot, he owned a Cessna 172. He was a member of Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79 in Ulysses, and a former member of the Farm Bureau board, Johnson Co-op board and FHA board of directors.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include four sons, Mark, Ed and Bob Parks, all of Johnson City, and Max Parks of Kearney, Mo.; a sister, Dolores Ann Purcell of Ottawa; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral was at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson City. Burial was at Liverpool Cemetery in southeast Stanton County.
