OBITUARY:
Lois Ann Simpson Cope of rural Yates Center, died Thursday, January 30, 2003, at her home. She was 69.
She was born March 27, 1933 in Woodson County, the daughter of Gaylord and Elsie (Carter) Simpson. She lived all her life in Woodson County.
She attended the rural Finney School and graduated from Yates Center High School in 1951.
She was employed for several years at the State Exchange Bank in Yates Center, and then was active in the farming operation with her husband.
She was a member of the West Owl Creek Unit for 49 years and served as a 4-H leader for 15 years. She was active in sewing and quilting and was a member of the Sewing Guild and the Sunflower Quilting Guild.
On January 8, 1954, she married Cleo Cope in Yates Center. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Susan Addington of Wichita; Deb Handy of Pomona; and Cindy Ralstin of Yates Center; one sister, Mary Lou Brown of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; one grandson, five granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center. Burial followed at Askren Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Glen, Ray, Bill and John.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or for the Sunflower Quilt Guild and may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
