Rodger Ray Westeman, 68, of Syracuse, died Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born February 12, 1939, in Syracuse, to Fred W and Bessie O Smith Westeman. He attended Coolidge High School, graduating in 1958.
Mr Westeman farmed in the Bear Creek community. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a former member of the Syracuse Co-op Board and the FSA County Committee, and belonged to the Syracuse Moose Lodge and numerous gun clubs.
He enjoyed tinkering with his antique tractors, snowmobile trips, hunting, camping, fishing and spending time with his family and especially enjoyed farming.
On July 14, 1961, he married Donetta Donnel in Syracuse. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Mike Westeman of Syracuse; a daughter, Rashelle DeWeese of Liberal; two brothers, Jerry Westeman of Wichita, and Freddie Westeman of Syracuse; two sisters, Orene Martin of Johnson City, and Arlene Kirby of Syracuse; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arthur L. Westeman.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. MDT Friday, August 24, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Hatton Cemetery in the Bear Creek community.
