Melnora Yvonne "Toppie" Kirby, 76, Fort Scott, died early Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at her home following a lengthy cancer illness. She was born Sept. 3, 1923 in Fort Scott, the daughter of Charles H. and Sylvia L. Ogle Kitchen. She was a 1941 graduate of Fort Scott High School. She married Clifton L. Kirby on Oct. 3, 1943 in Fort Scott. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Pierian Beta Club. She was a Blue Bird leader and Camp Fire leader. Prior to retirement she worked as Deputy Clerk of the District Court and as a secretary for Miller Insurance Company.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton of the home; two daughters, Elaine Kay Kirby and Carol Sue Brown and husband, Danny, all of Fort Scott; two sisters, June Singmaster, Prairie Village, Kan., and Gerald Black, Porterville, Calif. Also surviving are two grandsons, one niece and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nadine Eastman.
