Charles Edward "Charlie" Klenklen, 80, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas.

He was born August 18, 1930, in South Mound, Kansas, the son of Odelia Joseph and Chrystie Mable Singleton Klenklen. Charles married Flora Fern Beeney on October 10, 1953, in Erie, Kansas. Flora preceded him in death on July 21, 1981. He married Mary Ann Sager Worthington in Springfield, Missouri, on September 28, 1991.

Charles owned and operated Klenklen's Garage in Uniontown, Kansas, for many years. He later worked at several car dealerships in Bourbon County and eventually retired self-employed.

Charles attended Cherry Grove Baptist Church. He served our country in the United States Army in combat during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Combat Infantrymen's Association, where he was once commander. Charles was also a member of the 279th Infantry Association and the 45th Infantry Division Association. His passion and commitment to the United States military was strong throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann of the home, 2 daughters, Carol Piornack and husband Nick, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Joyce Tassi and husband Dennis, Arma, Kansas. Also surviving are 3 step-children, Dwight Worthington and wife Marita, Pocatello, Idaho; Dewayne Worthington and wife Gina, Mulberry, Kansas; and Charlotte Shireman and husband Greg, Republic, Missouri.
Surviving are 2 grandchildren and 6 step-grandsons. Charlie also has 2 great-grandsons, 1 step-granddaughter, and 1 step-great-grandson.
Additionally, Charles is survived by daughter-in-law Cindy Vincent, Claremont, Florida; and siblings, Georgia Shively, Raymore, Missouri, Eva Mullen, Springfield, Missouri, Rosemary Schmid and Jeanie Wise, Parsons, Kansas, and Odie V Klenklen, Erie, Kansas; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Flora, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Rodney Klenklen, a sister, Regina Lero, and a brother, Robert (Bob) Klenklen, as well as his parents.

Rev Dr Dale Cummins conducted graveside services for Charles Klenklen June 2, in the US National Cemetery, Fort Scott

Memorials are suggested to either the Sharing Bucket, Combat Infantrymen's Association or the Disabled American Veterans and may be sent to the Cheney Witt Chapel.
