Lake Wabaunsee (aka Kaeckell/Wilke Cemetery) Cemetery
Wabaunsee County,
Kansas

This cemetery is located on the north side of the dam at Lake Wabaunsee near K4 Hwy. There are four individuals buried here: Henriette W. Meier Kaeckell Wilke, Ludewig Kaeckell, and their two children that died in infancy. The two children do not have headstones.
Originally the plan was to build the dam over the site of the graves and move the graves to Eskridge Cemetery. There are conflicting stories as to why the graves were not moved but the site of the dam was changed and the lake was built by the WPA (Works Progress Administration), who also built the stone wall around the graves.
