LIBERTY - Rodney James Swickert, 76, of Liberty died early Monday morning, Oct. 16, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Independence after an extended illness.
He was born January 7, 1930, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Henry and Marie Schwickert Swickert). He grew up in Aurora, Illinois.
He joined the Marine Corps at age 18 and served his country well over the next 30 years. After retiring from the military, he worked as a road-grader operator for Labette County.
He married Lois Nading on March 22, 1958, in Anaheim, Claif. She survives.
He will be remembered for his good humor, his optimistic spirit and his loving and supportive presence.
Other survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Swickert-Hittner and her husband, James, of Charleston, South Carolina; a granddaughter, Jalie Beth Swickert-Hittner; a sister, Charlotte Hornyan; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leroy and Lynne nading; a niece, Lora Ruth Osborn; and many other family members and friends.
