David settled on a claim in Labette County Kansas in February of 1869 (NE/4 30-33-18 Canadian Township) 8 miles southwest of Mound Valley. Two sons, Snowden (NW/4 OF 29-33-18 Canadian Township) and David (SE/4 of 30-33-18 in Canadian Township), took claims adjoining their fathers.
Their daughter Amanda and her husband Jacob Wolford claimed the SE/4 of 5-34-18 in Canadian Township and Sarah Belle and husband, Ben Young, claimed the NE/4 of 25-33-17 in Canadian Township.
