Married Mary Ecklof October 22, 1850 in Renneslof Parish, Sweden. They had 8 children, ? (1856-1857; buried at sea); Charles P, Joseph, Junia C; Lydia M, Victor Emanuel, Stephen Marion and ?.

Benjamin Christianson was born in Sweden, he married Mary while a resident of his native country. Before he and Mary left Sweden he took Mary's maiden name of Ecklof or "Oakleaf" as it was more easily spoken. They came to America before 1857 and settled in Moline, Illinois where Benjamin worked at a paper factory. On June 10, 1869, BP homesteaded in Labette County, Kansas on the NE/4 of the S/2 of township 33, range 18 in Mound Valley township. His family came in October of that year and with his family came the family of Swan Peterson.

BP and Mary were the parents of 2 children born in Sweden. A letter from their son, Joseph, dated May 14, 1906, written to his brother, Charles, on his 50th birthday, stated there were 10 children. A brother died in route to America and was buried at sea. Two sisters were buried in the old cemtery where the C H Deere factory was built and one sister is buried in the old cemetery east of Moline, Illinois.
