Amos Grover was the sixth child born to Calvin Grover and wife Betsy Conant Grover. He owned a 40 acre land grant in Tazwell County, Illinois in 1850 and married Margaret Staes that same year. Two children were born to this union. Margaret died between 1872 and 1878. Amos Grover served in the Civil War in the Tenth Regiment, Company K of the Iowa Soldiers in the War of the Rebellion. In December of 1878, Amos married Lucretia Vernard in Kansas. They had four children, with their oldest child, Hattie Maude being born in Missouri and the rest in Kansas. He is shown as a farmer in Lyons County, Kansas in the 1880 US Census, and at the end of his life he lived in the Elms Township in Pratt County, Kansas, about seven miles from the town of Pratt. Enlisted as a Private on 02 September 1861 at the age of 36 Enlisted in Company K, 10th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 28 September 1861. Mustered out Company K, 10th Infantry Regiment Iowa on September 28,1864 in Kingston, Georgia.His tombstone at the Ludwick Cemetery reads: "Amos Grover Aged 74 years 4 months 6 days" (Ludwick Cemetery is noted in some records as Fairview Cemetery or Burbank Cemetery.)Source: Contributor's personal knowledge
