Obituary for Leona:

Leona A Forbes, 92, of Topeka passed away Wednesday March 22 at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born March 24, 1913 in Chapman, Ks., the daughter of Frank and Grace Herman. She worked for the State of Kansas before retiring. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She loved to bowl and was a member of the Prime Timer League at Gage Center for many years. She was married to Lee M. Forbes in 1935 at Topeka. She had made her home in Topeka since the time of her marriage. Lee preceded her in death on May 16, 1960. Survivors include her son, Lavern Edward Forbes; grandchildren, Tammy Blakely of Topeka, James Forbes of Topeka, Eddie Forbes in Alabama, DeDe Kershaw of Topeka, Danny Forbes in Alabama, Shantelle Vaughan of St. Louis, Brianne Forbes in Houston and Sheri Cantu of Houston; six great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Lee Forbes in 1988 and three brothers, Ralph in 1977, Dick in 1991 and Purley in 1923. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 25th at Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery northwest of Topeka. She will lie in state at the funeral home from 3-9 pm on Friday where the family will receive friends from 7-8 pm Friday evening
