FOOTPRINTS OF BOURBON COUNTY FAMILIES, pages 121-122
Thomas Bradley Kent, the youngest son of Thomas and Jane (Miller) Kent, was born Sept. 15, 1875, in Greene County, Pennsylvania. At the age of three, he moved with his family by train from Jacktown, Pennsylvania, to Coffeyville, Kansas. In 1880 the family moved to the Uniontown vicinity.

The family engaged in farming, operated the Uniontown Hotel, the livery stable, and were for a time the custodians of the Bourbon County Farm. Tom attended school in Uniontown, and in his pre-teenage years, he accompanied his older brother on various cattle drives from Texas to Abilene, Kansas. As a young man Tom worked for the Konantz Funeral home, which was located in Uniontown. When Konantz moved to Fort Scott, Tom went with them. However, before the turn of the century, Tom returned to Uniontown and took up farming as his life work.

On Feb. 18, 1907, Thomas B. Kent and Flora McKinnis were united in marriage by Judge Crider in Fort Scott. Tom and Flora made their first home on the farm located at the southeast corner of Uniontown, at present it is the home of Charlie and Lucille Griffith. On Dec. 8, 1907, their first child Helen Grace, was born. In 1909 they moved to a farm southeast of Redfield, Kansas, and on Sept. 23, 1910, a second daughter, Virginia Fern, was born.

In 1911, Tom and Flora purchased the Darr Farm, which was located about six miles southwest of Uniontown, in the Petersburg area. This farm was their home until the time of Tom's death in 1936. On Feb. 12, 1913, their third daughter Nellie Ossee was born. Tom and Flora worked hard farming. In later years they had a small dairy herd, which had to be milked by hand. Tom and Flora were both members of the Presbyterian Church in Petersburg.

Tom's health had been failing for several years, and in the spring of 1936 he was admitted to the Main Street Hospital in Fort Scott with double pneumonia. On May 18, 1936, Tom died at the family home at the age of 60 of heart failure. He is buried in the Uniontown Cemetery.
