Earl was in the Army from November 4, 1952 until November 3, 1954. He liked to tell that he entered the Army the same day Dwight E. Eisenhower was elected President. He was stationed in Ft. Polk, LA for 18 months and then his Division was moved to Ft. Riley, KS for the last 6 months of his enlistment.

Earl G. Ruckman, age 77, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Topeka. He was born January 14, 1932 in Ft. Scott, KS the only son of Burn Ruckman and Vernie Bruner Ruckman. He married Margaret Nichols July 5, 1952 in Bronson, KS. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 1954. He retired from Beatrice Foods after 32 years of service. He was also employed by Holton Transport, RC Cola and Hermans Excavating. He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Margaret Ruckman of Topeka; one daughter and four sons, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and his dog, Pooch. Memorial services were Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at at the Davidson Funeral Home. Inurnment was Thursday at the Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, KS. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the donors choice and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
