Obituary:
Michael “Mike” D. Frantz, 48, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 24, 1960 in Topeka, the son of Gary M. and Judy Hudson Frantz. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1979 and attended Washburn University. Mike had resided in Lawrence and Baldwin prior to moving back to Topeka. He enjoyed the grocery business and was employed for the past 10 years at the Clinton Pkwy HyVee located in Lawrence. He was an avid K-State fan and a member of the Lawrence Catbackers Club. Mike married Donna J. Guinn on September 11, 1999 in Lawrence. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Matthew, his step-son, Ryan, his mother, Judy K. Smith, his siblings, Pat “Gary” (Barb) Frantz, Donna Frantz Meyer, Billie Smith (Rocky) Welch, Scotty (Stacy) Smith and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his father, his step-father, Billy M. Smith, his nephew, Cpl. Lucas A. Frantz, his granny, Mary L. Hudson and many other loved ones. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mike will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
