Isaiah (Close Up) REEDER

Walnut Hill Cemetery
Bourbon County,
Kansas

July 15, 1806 - June 13, 1885

Isaiah was born in Solesbury, Bucks County, PA. He moved with his parents and family to Lycoming County, PA in 1810. He grew up in the stone house by Loyalsock Creek, which in 1984 was still standing and in good condition on the PA State Game Farm but was being used for storage.
The Lycoming Co., PA grantor deed index, p. 118 shows that Isaiah Reeder sold land there in December 1854, although he had moved from Pennsylvania to Illinois before the 1850 census. Isaiah Reeder's residence in December 1854 is in Bk 53; p 582 (Lycoming Co.) designated as Burlington Tp., Kane Co., IL. Some of Isaiah's records in Kane Co., IL have been mixed up with those of one Jacob Reeder.
Isaiah stayed in Lycoming County until his father died.
When Isaiah moved his family from Lycoming Co., PA to Kane Co., IL, he evidently went there with 2 first cousins, who were sons of David Reeder of Lycoming, brother to Benajah Reeder, Sr. who was Isaiah's father. Isaiah moved to Bourbon Co., KS in 1868.
In the 1880 census, Isaiah and Mary, both in their 70s, are found living with two unmarried sons, Seth and Benage. George is also in Franklin Township at this time, with wife Frances and 4 children.
The 1880 census of Drywood Community shows William Reeder age 49, wife Nancy 42 and John Reeder age 25, and wife Dora.
In 1987 a Reeder still owned the old homestead in Bourbon County, KS. The house was being used for hay and grain storage.
Isaiah and Mary were married in 1830, Lycoming County, PA. Their children were: William H., Seth, Deborah, Anna, Benaage R., Samuel, Susan J., Lydia J., Sarah E. and George W.
It was thought Isaiah's death date was July 13, 1893 but his gravestone gives his death date as June 13, 1885.
