Doris Charlene Broughton, age 78, former resident of Uniontown, Kansas, died Friday, August 2, 2013 at her home in Hamilton, Texas. She was born January 24, 1935 in Uniontown, Kansas the daughter of Thomas A. "Tom" Reeder and Ilah "Polly" Irene Schull Reeder. Charlene was raised on a family farm near Uniontown, Kansas and attended Uniontown High School. She married Wendell D. Broughton on June 1, 1950 in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1991. Upon getting married, they moved to El Paso, Texas where they raised their family. After her husband's death, she returned to Uniontown to be close to her mother and then moved to Hamilton a year ago to be near her family. Charlene was a homemaker, home childcare giver, an office-manager/bookkeeper at car dealerships in El Paso and Shepherd Motors in Fort Scott. She was a lifetime member of Texas PTA, a member of the Red Hat Society, and an avid gardener. Her real joy in life was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a brother, Roy Reeder, Uniontown; four children, Margaret "Peggy" Taylor and husband Perry, Denver, Colorado, Curtis Roy Broughton and wife Kathleen, and Robert Allen Broughton, all of Hamilton, Texas, and Russell Dee "Rusty" Broughton, El Paso, Texas. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Pastor Marty DeWitt will conduct funeral services at 10:30 A.M. Thursday in the First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown. Burial will follow in Uniontown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
