One of Oswego's pioneer citizens, he came to Oswego with his parents in 1879. He was the eldest of five children of Mr & Mrs John Carpenter. The only family member living is a brother Joe, living in Oswego.
He married Elizabeth King Johnson 1892 in St Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife & two sons Alfred & John Carroll who was killed in 1918 in France.
He worked as a boy in his father's general store, the first brick building in Oswego. It now is occupied by the Ryan Furniture store. At different times he was a director in the Condon National bank in Oswego & a partner in the ownership of the Parsons Light & Heating Company. For a period of eight years, he was a postmaster at Oswego. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Christine, Charlotte & Robert.
