Nevada Josephine Ryan, 88, of Manheim, Pennsylvania and a former long-time resident of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.Nevada was born June 19, 1923 in rural South Coffeyville to Joseph Ira and Minnie Hoffman Smith. She grew up and spent most of her life in the South Coffeyville area. She attended the Hoffman Grade School, a one room school built on land donated by her grandfather, Thomas Hoffman. Nevada married Floyd F. Ryan and the Ryans farmed just a mile from Nevada's childhood home for the next 30 years. She was also a seamstress, not only for hire in the community but making nice clothing for her family, as well.The couple sold the farm and moved to Indian Village in Coffeyville, Kansas. Mr. Ryan preceded his wife in death in 1982. Nevada later married Gilbert Blue, and he too preceded her in death. Shortly after the death of her second husband, Nevada moved to Manheim to be with her daughter, Joy.She was always looking for an excuse to celebrate life, whether it was a birthday or the first day of school. Nevada loved her family and raised two grandchildren in her home. In her younger years, she loved to fish and camp out.
Survivors include sons, Floyd Douglas Ryan and wife, Kelly of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Roger Ryan and wife, Jodie of Coffeyville; daughter, Debora Joy Broich and husband, Thomas of Manheim; sisters, Margie Whorton and husband, W Lois of Burleson, Texas, Berniece Ryan of Vinita, Oklahoma and Vesta Murdock of Coffeyville; 7 grandchildren; 5 step-grand children; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; two husbands; daughter, Linda Joyce Womack in July of 2001; brothers, Lauren and Clifford Smith; sisters, Ethel Lemmons, Clara Bowen, Chlora Daily and Edna Gowen; ogranddaughter, Tami Ryan and great-grandchildren, Kyle Christofic and Ryan Gadoua.
