Andrew Jackson Tandy, passed away at his home 810 East Ninth, Sunday morning at 8:30 after an illness of several years, at the age of 62 years, nine months and 13 days.
Mr. Tandy was one of the early settlers in this community, having moved here with his family in 1884, and was one of the best known colored men in Newton. He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs Myrtle Washington, Mrs Stella Ailstock and Ruth, of Kansas City, M., Maurine and Dot at home. One brother,
Moses, resides in Kansas City.Survived by three grand children, Naomi Ailstock, Dianna Rose and Brother Kern.
Funeral services will be held at the C M E church on West Fifth, Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev E L Hollis. Mr Tandy will be at the Sprinker Mortuary until the hour of service.
Andrew Jackson Tandy was born August 14, 1862 near Hopkinsville, Ky Died June 7 at the age of 62 years.
He was a member of the C M E church. He was often called the founder of the C M E church in the west.
The funeral was attended by Rev E L Hollis, D D from C M E church. Burial by the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows.
