Isaiah Yocum of Newton, died March 25, 1880, after a lingering illness of some time, he was 71 years, 8 months and 9days. Mr Yocum came to Newton from Louisville,Ky, in the spring of 1872 and built the first two story residence in this city; also invested quite extensively in real estate in the county. He was an enthusiastic admirer and friend of southwestern Kansas, and especially of Harvey county. Mr Yocum had been a member of the M E Church since he was 18 years of age, and practiced what he preached as strictly christian man. He was a man esteemed highly by all who knew him, for his many good qualities of both head and heart.
