George Esley Arzberger, age 101 years, 11 months, formerly of La Cygne, Kansas, died Sunday June 30 2013 at the Golden Years Nursing Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was born on July 11, 1911 in rural Miami County, Kansas the son of Henry and Mabel Knispel Arzberger. He attended rural grade school and graduated from La Cygne High School in 1929 as Valedictorian. He married Edna Bergman on her birthday, December 24, 1932 at the La Cygne Christian Church. He was on the Church Board, served as Elder, Choir Member, and taught the men''s Sunday school class for 40 years. He was a dairy and crop farmer until his retirement in 1974 when he and Edna moved from the farm into their home in La Cygne. He was a 4-H leader, Lincoln Township treasurer for over 30 years, Linn County Committee Member, Linn County Assessor, and Caretaker of the LaHarper Heights Senior Citizen Home for many years. He was active in Farm Bureau, and served on the Linn County Election Board and the Board of the La Cygne Historical Society. George never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He loved his family and friends dearly, and his caring personality and warmth will be fondly remembered by those around him. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna of 68 years, his parents and a brother Clyde Arzberger.
He is survived by his two daughters: Donna Brewer of Harrisonville, Missouri and Rosella Hays and Ronald of Topeka, Kansas; four grandchildren: Diana Colvard and Ed, Doug Hays and Suzie, Mike Hays and Debbie, Brenda Abbott and David, seven great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
