Records entered from 1953 transcription by Kate B Shields, Genealogical Records Chairman, Cofachique DAR Chapter, Iola, KS.

'inscriptions are from stones in the old Cottage Grove Cemetery, on R2 out of Humboldt, KS. and near the site of the first County Seat of Allen County, Cofachique. In 1859, Dr. I.N. Phillips, donated a plat of ground from his homestead for a cemetery, which was started when his small daughter, Amaranda C. died from the effects of fatal burns, received when she and her mother were making pumpkin butter in a kettle over an open fire out of doors. Dr. I.N. Phillips was the great-uncle of our present Regent, Mrs. T.F. Limbocker (Hallie Nichols). These graves are in the southwest corner of his homestead and he asked all settlers of County to use as their burial ground.' taken from Cofachique Chapter D.A.R. Genealogical Records 1953.

1906 Cemeteries in Kansas listing at Kansas State Historical Society does not list Cottage Grove Cemetery. There are 2 listed for Cottage Grove Township - Lash and German Cemeteries. By 1953, this cemetery was named Cottage Grove.
