Stanley was a Survivor of the USS Franklin, CV 13 on March 19, 1945.
The USS Franklin (CV/CVA/CVS-13, AVT-8), nicknamed "Big Ben," was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II for the United States Navy, and the fifth US Navy ship to bear the name.
USS Franklin (CV-13) was an Essex-class aircraft carrier launched in 1943 and active in World War II in the Pacific against Japanese forces.She was damaged in service three times, over a thousand of her crew killed or wounded, and during these battles she was the scene of heroism and great effort on the part of her crew. USS Franklin (CV-13) afire and listing after she was hit by a Japanese air attack while operating off the coast of Japan, March 19,1945.
