Ted Collister was born July 29, 1919, in Salina, the son of the late Bernard Collister and the former Lola B. Dakin. He was a graduate of Salina High School.

He met his wife, the former Ellen Buck, while attending Kansas Wesleyan and they were married Aug. 21, 1941, in Junction City. He worked at the Atlas Powder plant in St. Louis prior to joining the U.S. Navy and serving during World War II.

He then returned to Salina, where he owned and operated Ted Collister Real Estate. In 1960, he opened and operated Atlas Optical in the former downtown Sears Center.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; daughter, Barbara Ross; son, Pat Collister; and three granddaughters, Lisa Ross, Shelly Ross and Nikki Collister.

Ellen was born May 24, 1920, on a farm four miles north of Tescott, Kansas, to Floyd J. and Ruth (Buell) Buck. She was an accomplished equestrian and pianist and taught after graduation from Kansas Wesleyan University.

Ellen and her husband, Ted Collister, were the owners and operators of Atlas Optical in Sears Center in Salina. For 35 years she was involved with VOSH; a group that provides eye care to people worldwide who otherwise would not have this service.

Ellen passed away June 13, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Ernest Buck, and a sister, Lucy Carlson.

Survivors included son, Pat Collister and his wife Chris; daughter, Barbara Ross and her husband Mike; a brother, John F. Buck; and three granddaughters, Nikki Collister, Lisa Ross and Shelly Renaud.
