Arlene C. Austin Hannebaum was born August 8, 1914 at Culver, the daughter of Lloyd and Mabel Lucy Langerman Austin. She passed away June 14, 2003 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis. She was 88 years, ten months and six days of age.

On October 8, 1932 she was united in marriage to Walter W. Hannebaum at Lyons. All their married life was spent farming in the Tescott area. Her husband preceded her in death March 16, 1991. Arlene was manager of the cosmetics department at Stiefel's Department Store in Salina until her retirement. She later worked as an Avon representative.

Survivors include two sons, Dean Hannebaum of Yukon, OK and Darrell Hannebaum of Minneapolis; a daughter, Dee Ann Shorter of Culver; two sisters, Betty Bacon of Ada and Evelyn Batcheller of Salina; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by an infant son Larry Leon Hannebaum.

The funeral was June 17 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Tescott with Rod Thompson, PMA, officiating.

Organist was Jane Berkley. Honorary bearers were Don Hannebaum and Gary Schoshke. Casket bearers were Brian Hannebaum, Scott Hannebaum, Jeff Brooks, Keenan Hannebaum, Greg Kurtz and Doug Swanson. Interment was in Franklin Cemetery at Tescott. Shields Funeral Home at Minneapolis handled the arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Tescott or the American Cancer Society.

Walter W. Hannebaum was the son of Frederick and Emma Reifel Hannebaum. He passed away on Saturday, March 16, 1991 at the Ottawa County Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 80 years and 9 days.

He married Arlene C. Austin on October 8, 1932 at Lyons, Kansas. They spent their lives together farming in the Tescott community. Walter was known for his large gardens. He also worked as a television repairman. Walter loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

Walter was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Tescott and the Culver Lions Club.

His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 1991 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tescott, with Pastor Thomas Whay officiating. Arrangements were made by Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis, Kansas.

Survivors included his wife, Arlene of the home; two sons- Dean of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Darrell of Hilo, Hawaii; one daughter Dee Ann Shorter of Culver; two brothers - Armund and Earl, both of Denver, Colorado, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son Larry Leon, and by two brothers and two sisters.

The family suggested memorials be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Hospice of Ottawa County.
