After an extensive battle with various medical problems, Meryl Stirn left this world peacefully for her place in heaven. She died peacefully at Salina Regional Health Center on Monday, October 27, 2008. To her friends, neighbors and family, as well as to all of the medical and health care professionals who have assisted her in this four year battle--thank you.
Meryl D. Schneeman was born March 3, 1930 near Tescott, Kansas to Lewis and Caroline Schneeman. She was the youngest of their five children, and was preceded in death by her sisters and brother, Beulah Hines, Lola Nieman, Orrill Breer and Albert Schneeman. Meryl graduated from Tescott High School in 1948 and attended Kansas Wesleyan University, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school at Glendale for two years. She married Albert P. Stirn on April 27, 1952 and they had four children, Randall, Craig, Rodney and Kalynn. Meryl was a full time mother to her children, but also assisted her husband in their business, Baker-Stirn Automotive, until it closed in 1997 after Albert retired. She worked parttime for several years with Market Aide. Albert Stirn died in 2004.
Meryl was an avid quilter for many years, and though her eyesight had not allowed her to continue quilting in the past couple of years, she remained active with Silver Needles, a local quilters club. Meryl was also a former member of Women's Federated Club. Meryl loved working in her yard and garden and kept it well manicured, while growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. Meryl had a strong relationship with God and was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Salina.
Surviving are her children, Randall and Elaine Carpentier; Craig and Peggy Stirn; Rodney Stirn; and, Kalynn and Scott Mueller. She is survived by her grandchildren, Erica Stirn, Amanda Stirn, Evan Stirn, Rachel Stirn, Betsy Stirn, Emily Stirn, Anne Mueller and Kent Mueller, as well two great-grandsons, Orion and Coda Stirn-Gorham.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday Nov. 1, 2008 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Salina. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery, Tescott, Ks.
