William Washing McKee was born on a farm in Shelby County, Ohio, the son of Thomas M McKee and Sarah (Little) McKee. At the age of 12, Wash's father passed away leaving his mother to care for him and 4 younger brothers and sisters. Wash met and married Mary Catherine Empy in May of 1949. At that time they began their migration to Kansas, first through through Indian and Illinois.
Wash and Mary had 8 children born to their union. Only 3 of which were living at his death.
"W W McKee dropped dead at his home Tuesday morning April 29th at 7:30 o'clock. He had been in poor health for many years, suffering with stomach trouble and heart failure. Monday night he sat up most of the night. He said he was not sleepy. He arose in the morning at the usual time, ate but little breakfast and went out around the yard as usual and finally went to the wood pile and began sawing a stick. He had sawed part way through the stick when he fell backward to the ground. He was dead before anyone could get to him.

Mr. McKee was in his 78th year and almost entirely blind. He leaves a most faithful companion that had affectionaly cared for him since his blindness, three children and grandchildren to mourn their loss. Mr. & Mrs. McKee had been united in marriage for almost 53 years. The funeral was conducted by R. H. Welch of Edna, as the minister failed to arrive. After the services, the remains were entered in the G B McKee (family) cemetery and are calmly resting by the side of his son, daugther and grandchildren. Many thanks are extended to the kind friends and neighbors.

We shall sleep but not forever, There will be a glorious dawn, We shall meet to part no never, On the Resurrection morn."
