Fred M Crippen, was born September 27, 1905 at Gove, Kansas and was the son of Charles G and Emma Jane Rhodes Crippen. He passed away July 14, 1993 at the Gove County Medical Center, Quinter, Kansas at the age of 87 years, 9 months, 17 days. He was a graduate of Gove High School and in 1956 obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at Fort Hays State University at Hays, Kansas. Fred dedicated 44 of his working years to the education profession holding teaching and administrative positions at schools located in Gove, St Francis, Grinnell, Angelus and Missouri Flats rural schools. he also served as a past county superintendent in Gove County. In his later years he always enjoyed his former students stopping by for a visit. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Lions Club, and the Odd Fellows Lodge, all of Gove. He was also a member of Teacher's Hall of Fame at Dodge City and had served as a past city council member and mayor of Gove. Fred was an outdoors-man and was always happy to be outside caring for his lawn and vegetable garden. He especially enjoyed his flower garden. He had several cats but had a special love for his house cat, "Snooks". He liked attending the Senior Citizen's Center and did so every day. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important and special to him. He also enjoyed his good neighbors.

On May 1, 1927, Fred was united in marriage with Arlene Hefner at Gove, Kansas. She passed away April 18, 1981.

Survivors include a son, Donald E Crippen and wife Doris, of Hill City, Kansas; 3 grandsons, Galen Crippen and wife Sheryl, of Wichita, Kansas; Jerry Crippen and wife Ursula, of Regensburg, Germany; Jeff Crippen and wife Shelly, of Wichita, Kansas; 5 great grand - children, Jascon, Matthew, Robert, Hannah and Todd Crippen, all of Wichtia, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Len and Ray Crippen and 1 sister, Verda Crippen.

Arlene Rose Hefner was born to Charles and Clara (Thomas) Hefner May 28, 1908 in rural Gove County, and departed this life, April 18, 1981 at the LTCF at Quinter. She was united in marriage to Fred Crippen May 1, 1927. To this union was born 1 son, Donald Eugene. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Fred; her son, Donald and his wife, Doris; 3 grandsons; 2 great grandsons and 2 brothers, Frank Hefner of Quinter, Kansas and Harvey Hefner of Santa Ana, California .Arlene became a member of the Gove United Methodist Church on November 2, 1920. She played the piano for church for many years, sang for funerals and performed many more services in the church. She was a charter member of the GFWC Clotilda Club of Gove, a member of the Gove Rebecca Lodge and an active member of many community affairs. She served 2 terms as Register of Deeds of Gove County and was deputy to this office and other offices of the county.

Casket bearers were, Louie Anglin, Raymoond Roemer, Gail Beesley, Leslie Kerns, Richard Roemer and Harold Lundgren.
