Elizabeth P Ryan, 98, of Coffeyville, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. She was born January 12, 1913 in Caney, Kansas to Frank and Lily Gray Pocock. Elizabeth grew up and attended school in Caney graduating from Caney High School. Following high school she attended and graduated from Pittsburg State University, and did post-graduate work at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. She taught at Lincoln School in Caney, Kansas from 1939 to 1946. On March 14, 1942 she married Jim Ryan in Coffeyville, Kansas. Shortly after her husband returned from military service, they moved to Boise, Idaho. Mrs Ryan taught school in Boise for many years retiring in 1978. After returning to Coffeyville in 1990 her name was placed in the Boise Hall of Fame for her teaching and community service.
Mrs Ryan was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville.Local survivors include niece, Mary Bookter and husband Don of Coffeyville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim Ryan in 2007, 1 son, 1 grandson, and 2 brothers.

The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
