Son of Lemuel & Edith A Ferry Pinney
Mr Pinney came to Kansas at a very early date, and took an active part in all the early troubles, serving under Jim Lane. He served nearly four years in the late war. He was one of the very first settlers on Elk River, locating about two miles west of Longton in 1868, while the Indians were yet here. When Howard county was organized he was appointed sheriff.
