Thelma Iola Stimatze, 84, died Monday, February 4, 2008, at Seasons Of Life Living Center in Syracuse.
She was born October 19, 1923, in a small country home in rural Coolidge, to George Washington and Edith Ellen Webster Herren.
A resident of Hamilton County her entire life, living in Coolidge and Syracuse, Mrs Stimatze worked at various cafes in Syracuse, at Cummings Cleaners, the bowling alley and as a cook at Syracuse High School before retiring in March 1988 due to her health. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, helped with the Girl Scouts, and enjoyed crafts, crocheting, sewing, working in her yard, taking care of her flowers, cooking family meals, sharing stories and camping, especially with her grandchildren and her dog.
On May 26, 1940, she married Charles Stimatze Sr, in Syracuse. He preceded her in death as did her parents; a daughter, Jennie Stimatze Beard; three brothers, Noah, Elza and Carl Herren; and five sisters, Florence Berndt, Malissa Fay, Gladys Gardner, Minnie Kinslow and her twin sister, Velma Herren.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Stimatze and David R. Lewis, both of Syracuse, and Roy Stimatze of Pratt; a daughter, Patricia Tope of Syracuse; two sisters, Dolly Beaman of Lakewood, Colorado, and Venus Gropp of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at the Wesleyan Church, Syracuse. Burial was at Coolidge Cemetery
