Leland Earl Clyburn, age 86, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the Mercy Health Center. He was born November 23, 1923, in Deerfield, Missouri, the son of Joseph Ray Clyburn and Edna Pauline Weber Clyburn. He married Alice Ruth Murray on May 30, 1947, at Girard, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1990. Earl had served with the United States Army during World War II. Earl had worked for Norvell in Fort Scott from 1947 to 1995 and had served as plant manager for many years. He was a member of the Brethren Church and had recently been attending the Cherry Grove Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Memphis Masonic Lodge #108 of Garland, the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg and the Scottish Rite Consistory as well as the Eastern Star and the V. F. W. Earl enjoyed woodworking and HAM radio.
..Survivors include two daughters, Janice Morter and husband, Rod, Fort Scott and Joyce Medved and husband, Steve, Louisville, Kentucky; two brothers, Donald "Bill" Clyburn of Wichita and Joe Clyburn, Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Marjorie Martin, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Rose Mary Bailey, Fort Scott, Kansas; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his special friend and caregiver, Catharine Brooker, of Fort Scott.
..Rev. Dale Cummins conducted funeral services Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Masonic rites were conducted by the Masonic Lodge. Burial followed in the Clarksburg Cemetery where military honors were provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family received friends on Sunday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Scottish Rite Rose Croix services were conducted at 6:30 P.M. Memorials were suggested to the Mirza Transportation Fund or the Diabetes Association.

Alice Ruth Clyburn was born Nov. 8, 1923, at Richards, Mo., the daughter of Lloyd Raymond and Martha Alice Sheperd Murray. She married Leland Earl Clyburn May 30, 1947, at Girard. Alice Ruth died Jan. 22, 1990, at Fort Scott Mercy Hospital.
