Mrs U G Rogers, who before her marriage was Willa Jane McClunny, was born in Mifflin County, PA., and was almost 63 years of age at the time of her death, last Friday, Oct 27.
When a young girl she came with her grandmother to Barber County. She attended school for several years at Medicine Lodge before teaching for two years in this county. After her grandmother passed away, she finished "paying out" on the homestead which has been the Rogers home for many years.
She was married April 2, 1892, to U G Rogers, and they have lived almost 50 years in Barber County, throughout the period of their married life with the exception of two years when the family was located at Emporia.
Several Children were born to the couple. Two sons preceded their mother in death, one in infancy and another, Joe, at the age of 12 years.
Besides her husband, Mrs Rogers is survived by three sons, Eugene, William L, and Ray E, and two daughters, Edna, now Mrs Ralph Phillips, and Mary, all of whom were with their mother during her last illness. Five grandchildren also survive her.
Mrs. Rogers suffered a stroke of paralysis last Monday morning and never regained consciousness.
She joined the church at an early age and has been a member of the Medicine Lodge Methodist church for many years.
Because she had been in comparatively good health, the news of her illness and death came to relatives and friends as a tremendous shock.
Those who knew her loved her for her most admirable Christian character. Hardships of pioneer days had not dimmed a deep sense of humor, or changed a most kindly and charitable outlook upon life. Her deepest interest was always in her husband and children and she was a most faithful wife and mother.
