Ruth Smith, 100, of Uniontown, Ks., died at the Marmaton Valley Nursing Home, in Uniontown, Friday, December 25, 1998. She was born, April 25, 1898, in Pattonsburg, Mo., the daughter of Siegel and Effie May Burris McKinnis. She married Charles Henry Smith, March 29, 1919, in Fort Scott, Ks. He preceded her in death, April 21, 1966.
She was a member of the Uniontown United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Before she was married, she taught school at the Goff County School near Uniontown.
She is survived by a son, Glenn Smith and a daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Betty)White, both of Uniontown, Ks, four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Henry Smith, and eight brothers and sisters.
Rev. Deborah McDurmond officiated funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 1998 at the Uniontown United Methodist Church. Music was provided by Paul Walrod, soloist and Nita Payne, pianist.
Burial was in the Uniontown Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral home. Pallbearers were Charles Smith, Richard Smith, Bob Miller, Chris Smith, Gary White, Dustin Miller and Ryan Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Siegel McKinnis, Jake Underwood, Lynne Holt, Gilbert Underwood, and Charles McKinnis.
The family suggests memorials to the Uniontown United Methodist Church. Donations may be left in care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
