Wilma Jean Gates, 67, resident of Uniontown, died early Monday, July 19, 1999 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born January 14, 1932 in Uniontown, the daughter of Hormon Roy and Lena C. Anderson Kegerreis. She was a 1949 graduate of Uniontown High School. She married Norman Gates, on June 25, 1950 in the family home at Uniontown. She moved with her husband during his Navy career. She was retired from work at Western Insurance Company in the liability and comprehensive department. She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her hobbies included tole painting.
Survivors include her husband, Norman, of the home; two sons and a daughter. Also surviving are eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Kegerreis; and two sisters, Mary Florence Kegerreis and Doris Hite.
The Rev. Gene Parker conducted funeral services on Thursday, July 22, in the First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown. Private family burial followed in the Mason Cemetery under the direction of Cheney-Witt Memorial Chapel. Memorials were suggested to either the American Cancer Society of the Mirza Shrine Transportation Fund for crippled children.
