Nancy Smith was born Sep 22, 1825, near Senecaville, Guernsey Co., Ohio. She was the youngest child of Andrew and Nancy Smith, came with her mother's family, her father having died during her early childhood, to Missouri in the 1850s, when on July 10 1856 she was united in marriage to Guy Henton and during the summer of 1856 removed to Bourbon Co., Kansas, experiencing many of the hardships incident to pioneer life in the west. Of this union were born three daughters, the oldest dying in infancy, the two surviving, Mrs. N. Williams of Uniontown and Mrs. E. Pawling of Ft. Scott, KS.
She spent almost her entire married life on the farm they bought and improved on coming to Bourbon County. She was left a widow in March 1869 and was again married to Wm. E. Mason, Dec 21, 1873, his death occurring March 21, 1906.
She was converted in Aug. 1839 and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at the age of fourteen years. She was also a charter member of the same church in the Rockford Valley congregation. She departed this life Dec 30, 1912 at the home of her daughter, near Uniontown where she had resided continuously for the last three years of her life, aged 87 years, 3 months and 8 days. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. S. R. Shull of Ft. Scott, KS, Jan 1, 1913 and she was laid to rest by her loved ones in the Mason Cemetery, there to await the resurrection morning.
She is not dead – she is at rest, Forever free! Forever blest!

Mrs. Nancy Mason had the sad misfortune to slip off of her chair Saturday while paring an apple, falling to the floor and breaking her left leg. She suffered intense pain until Monday evening at 7:30 she passed peacefully away. Her funeral services were conducted by Rev. Shull of Ft. Scott at the Presbyterian Church on New Year's Day.
