Mrs. Otto loewen, succumbed this morning at 9 o'clock to severe burns which she had received on Saturday morning at her home in Ottawa, when her clothing ignited from the flames of a gas stove. Her body, accompanied by the family will arrive in Newton on Nov 21, Thursday afternoon and will be taken to Sprinker-Carter Funeral home.
Mrs Loewen was the daughter of Mr & Mrs Martin Thimm of Newton and resided here until her marriage to Prof Otto Loewen who is the son of Mr and Mrs Peter Loewen also of this city. She graduated from the Newton high school. Her home for many years was on the college campus where her family had charge of the dining hall for the students and where she had a wide circle of friends. She was also a teacher in the county schools for several years. After their marriage, Prof and Mrs Loewen taught in the American schools in Honolulu. On their return home, Mr. Loewen was a professor at the Kansas University but for the past year he has been in the Ottawa College and that city has been their home. One son, Warren, aged two years, has been the joy of their home.
Besides the immediate family relatives, those surviving Mrs loewen in her paternal family are her parents Mr and Mr. Martin Thimm, sisters, Mrs Otto Schmidt and Mrs Louis Ollenburger, whose homes are in Newton, Mrs John Conrad whose home is in Warren, Ark, and Sue, Lawrence, Theodore and Wilbur of the home circle here.
This tragedy, which has taken the wife and mother from a happy home, is a most deplorable one and the relatives have the sympathy of their many friends in Newton.
