At eight forty-five last evening death ended the suffering of Mrs Martha Dix who has been at the home of her daughter Mrs George E Gotham at 903 East Broadway for the past four years following a bad fall and whose life has been despaired of many times within the past months.

"Grandma" Dix, as she was lovingly called had nearly attained the age of eighty-two years, having been born August twenty-second, 1829.

Her maiden name was Martha Smith and it was at Waynesville, Ohio, that she became the wife of James W Dix with whom she moved later to Illinois and then in 1882 to Newton, where in 1890 her husband passed away.

Eight children blessed this union, four boys and four girls. Of these only three were able to be with their mother at the time of her death, W S Dix of this city and Mrs. Cora Braitsch, being able to be with Mrs Gotham. The older sons, Charles, Frank and Ernest are in Missouri, Illinois and New Mexico, respectively. Mrs Alice Flack is also in New Mexico and Mrs Emma Evans is in California.

Rev J E McClain of the First Congregational church will have charge of the funeral service tomorrow which will be held at the home of George E Gotham, 903 East Broadway, at half after four o'clock. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
