Honored Citizen For Many Years Passed on This Morning In the death of J L Caveny which occurred this morning at 4 o'clock at his home at 227 East Third Newton has lost one of its most substantial pioneer settlers who had reached the age of 80 years and had been active for nearly fifty years in every interest for the betterment of the community. As he gave his service loyally as a soldier in the Civil War, so did he continue to give his service to his country as a citizen. He served the county as county clerk for many terms.

Mr Caveny has been a very useful and valued citizen of Newton and his memory will be revered by many, many friends and acquaintances. He was a man of a genial, kindly spirit, who always met his friends with a smile, and cheery words of greeting. He was always ready to give counsel to those who sought his advice, and found very many ways to promote food fellowship, and opportunities of doing kindness.
Those in the family who survive Mr Caveny are his wife, daughters, Mrs Ebb Hayn of Chicago, Mrs Ed O'Dell of Kansas City, J Franklin Caveny of Chicago and Mrs frank [Laura] Trouslot of Newton, his brother H W Cavney of Newton and sister, Mrs Mary Young of Ft Collins, Colo.
