EVANS---In Newton, Kansas, Thursday evening, Nov 3, 1881, of consumption, and after a lingering illness, Mrs Ophelia H, wife of B F Evans, in the 37th year of her age.

Mrs Evans, with her parents came to Newton over nine years ago, and were among the earliest settlers here. She married in this city to Mr B F Evans, Feb 12, 1874, and for some two years they resided at Larned where here husband was engaged in the hardware business, but her health continuing to fail, it was found advisable to return to this city where she remained at the home of her mother, Mrs I Yokum, for several months past, and where she died, passing away as if in a slumber. Mrs Evans was a christian woman, and felt that she was prepared to die. At the age of fourteen years she united with the M E Church South, of which church she remained a member. The funeral services were conducted at the residence of her mother on Sunday, at 3 pm, Rev Merrifield officiating. After the services at the house, The Eastern Star Lodge, of which she was a member, took charge of the corpse and buried it with very impressive rites, as laid down by their ritual. A very large concourse of friends and relatives followed the remains to its last resting place. She leaves a husband and two little boys, aged four and seven years, together with a mother, two sisters and two brothers to mourn her loss.
