ia, mustered in with the Company H of the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteers on 10 August 1862, fought with the 47th in the 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign of Union General Philip Sheridan - where, and was mustered out of his regiment by General Order on 1 June 1865.

The son of David & Matilda (Weise) Horting, in 1860 he was a farmer living with his family in Miller Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 7" tall and had dark hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Landisburg, Perry County, August 7, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 10 as a private with Co. H, 47th Pennsylvania Infantry, following his brother Michael who had enlisted a year before. Ananias was honorably discharged by general order June 1, 1865, at Washington DC.

Shortly after the war, he married Sarah Dunmire and fathered:

By no later than 1885, he had moved his family to Kansas and appears on the 1885 state census as "Amasa Horting" and in the 1895 state census as "A" Horting.

On June 24, 1896, he entered the soldiers' home at Leavenworth, Kansas, and discharged February 8, 1898. Cause of death is listed as a "cerebral hemorrhage."
