Ray R Kepley, 99, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
He was born May 13, 1908, on the family homestead in southwest Grant County, to Edward Austin & Nellie Burr Reynolds Kepley. He was a lifetime resident of Grant County and a graduate of Grant County Rural High School. He was a farmer and outdoorsman, with an interest in hunting and sports. He started farming with his father and brother. They grew irrigated wheat and milo and raised cows and buffalo. At the age of 70, he wrote the book "Tails Up!" He was a member of Western Kansas Irrigation Association, Bonanza Club, Western Kansas Wheat Growers Association and served on the boards for the Historic Adobe Museum and Golden School.
Survivors include his daughter, Shari Snyder of Westminister, Colo.; brother, Edward Kepley of Ulysses; 11 nieces and nephews; and 21 great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ralph D Kepley; and sisters, Bernice Kepley and Nellie Burr Lattimore.
