Annabel Louise Highbaugh, age 85, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 at the Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home.

She was born April 27, 1916 in Moundville, Mo., the daughter of James Madison Martin and Ida Bell Welborn Martin

She married Marland Highbaugh May 12, 1940 in Bronson. The couple farmed in rural Bronson until moving to Chanute and then Garden City. They returned to Fort Scott in November 1982. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Marland of the home; one son, Martin L. Highbaugh, Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Jean (Joan) Ermel Bronson, and Louise Montague, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Joseph Martin, Uniontown; three grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clarence E. Martin; and a granddaughter, Kelly Montague.

The Rev. David Watson conducted funeral services Tuesday evening, in the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends until service time at the chapel. Cremation will follow funeral services with private family burial in the Bronson Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to either the Bronson United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation, and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, 66701.
