Ellen Jane Martin was the daughter of Evard Morton "Mote" Taylor and Eva Adele Wax. Mote and Eva had three children: Guy, Ellen, and Robert. Eva died in 1909 in Kansas at the age of 31, soon after the birth of son Robert.
Mote married Florence Mabel Williams on 4 Apr 1910 in Bourbon County, Kansas. Mote and Mabel had three children: Mary Elizabeth Taylor (Bergland), Robert Taylor, and Evard Nimrod "Ez" Taylor.
Ellen married Edward Owen Martin on 22 May 1942 at the Old Stone Church in Independence, Missouri. At the time Ellen was a school teacher living in Page County, Iowa and Owen was a farmer living in Fremont County, Iowa. Ellen taught country schools in the Page County, Iowa, area for 21 years.
After their marriage they lived in Shenandoah, Iowa, and had a son in 1944, Robert Owen Martin. In 1946 the family moved to Uniontown, Kansas. Daughter Mary Ellen was born in 1949. The family farmed outside of
Ellen died at the Labette County Hospital in Parsons County, Kansas, on 13 May 1996, at the age of 93 years.
